It seems pretty crazy but when you break it down: a family of 5 – owning a house – not on any Government subsidies – need about $90K to be able to serve desert Shabbos.
Mortgage, health, food, tuition, cars, cleaning help, clothing, Yom tov expenses, etc.

    How does everyone do it?

It’s a major problem! Especially when ppl are starting out- at first you can have subsidies and that can help but as soon as you don’t qualify any longer you’re in a really hard place! Not sure how things can change but the basic needs of living and the pay for the average job do not equal up.

    I know.
Tell me if this sounds crazy – Section 8 – HUD for a family of 5 can be over 20K plus 18K medical Plus 18K Food stamps annually – besides whatever other programs there are – can reach over 60K a year!

Don’t get me wrong – If you are eligible – utilize it 🙂 But once you are earning “too much” you get zero – pretty crazy system.

It’s prett unfortunate but most people go into debt because they are living as if they have their neighbors salary my opinion is don’t look what your neighbor, sister ,aunt or cousin live life with the money you have and make cut backs

I don’t think it’s because of their neighbors in general cost of living is high!!

It’s really tough the cost of living is high I was thinking about it at the end of the day it’s more worth it to be lower class the middle class because you get more benefits (ie; insurance, food, rent…)

It’s an epidemic I was just talking about this on shabbos how people would rather go into debt so their “image” looks good I disagree with the mahalach of life and it’s not something to teach your kids…
